Another bitter retirement hit Valtteri Bottas after suffering a suspected power-unit issue during the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas. The Finnish driver was forced to park his car early, adding yet another disappointing DNF to his challenging campaign with the American-backed outfit this season.
The current championship trail has proven to be an uphill battle for the experienced driver. Statistics show he has recorded nine non-finishes so far this year, a remarkably high tally compared to his historical baseline. Out of those nine setbacks, eight were directly tied to underlying technical gremlins.
“It's always disappointing not to finish, but it didn't sound great from the engine side, like physically,” Bottas commented regarding the mechanical failure that prematurely halted his race in Texas, as reported by Motorsport.com.

This ongoing situation highlights that the team still has a massive mountain to climb regarding both reliability and base performance. Bottas admitted that the outfit remains on a steep learning curve, often struggling to diagnose and comprehend the intermittent issues happening behind the scenes.
“I would say it's impossible to get a read on a year like this with so many issues. And the problem is sometimes we don't quite understand them. So it's really still a steep learning curve to go,” he further explained about the persistent development hurdles.

Despite the persistent technical headaches, the Austin weekend briefly offered encouraging signs of progress. The race pace showed glimpses of competitiveness, allowing both cars to briefly mix it up near midfield contenders such as Fernando Alonso. Cooler ambient temperatures and cloud cover in Texas played a key role in helping manage the car's thermal sensitivity.
“I think today what helped was the cloud cover. It was a bit cooler today, we know we are not great when it's high temperatures, so that helped a bit. But I thought it was going to be more difficult for us here, honestly. So that's why it's kind of positive,” Bottas concluded, looking ahead to the upcoming rounds on the calendar.
