Dick Johnson Racing has confirmed a crucial adjustment ahead of the prestigious Repco Bathurst 1000 following an injury sustained by their key race engineer. George Commins has been ruled out of attending this year's event due to injury, requiring a period of intensive recovery at home.

This unfortunate situation has forced the team to make a last-minute reshuffle inside the garage. Team manager and experienced race engineer Tom Moore will step in to serve as Brodie Kostecki's off-sider for the October 8-11 event. Moore's presence is expected to maintain technical stability within the squad amidst a fiercely competitive stretch of the season.

As for when Commins will be able to return to the pit wall, the timeline remains entirely uncertain. The remainder of the Repco Supercars Championship calendar features a demanding conclusion, with very tight turnarounds between the Bathurst 1000, the Gold Coast 500 on October 23-25, and the subsequent Sandown 500 on November 6-8.

Commenting on Commins' recovery, Kostecki noted that only time will tell when his trusted engineer can return to the paddock. "I'm not really too sure, it's obviously so close still to the incident," said Kostecki. "It's one of those things that time will tell, so we'll just see what happens."

Despite the challenging circumstances, Kostecki maintained a lighthearted approach regarding the bizarre nature of the accident while sending his best wishes. "George actually sent me a message and said that he was in hospital and had done a bit of damage to himself," Kostecki shared. "He's on the mend. He'll be off his feet for a little while, and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Kostecki emphasized that the groundwork laid by Commins prior to the event will serve as a strong base for their weekend campaign. "George has done all the legwork coming into the weekend, and every time he's given me a race car here it's been one of the fastest," he concluded.
