German road racing standout David Datzer has officially slammed the door on the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix after being left off the entry list once again. The controversial omission of the 2024 International Road Racing Championship Superbike title holder has left fans and paddock insiders baffled, particularly given his stellar historical performances on the daunting streets of the Chinese gambling enclave.
Four years ago, the Vilsbiburg native turned heads worldwide by finishing directly behind Erno Kostamo in a thrilling battle. He followed that up the very next year by clinching a remarkable third-place podium finish, fiercely contesting against British road racing heavyweights Peter Hickman and Davey Todd. Those impressive results cemented his reputation as a genuine force to be reckoned with on pure road circuits.
His journey faced significant hurdles following a severe crash at the Isle of Man TT, which hampered his results and sidelined him from competitive contention temporarily. Displaying remarkable resilience, he returned to action this season under Brian McCormack’s Roadhouse Macau Racing Team. Despite still dealing with physical limitations, he persevered to finish the Senior-TT in 39th place, alongside 29th and 30th-place finishes in the Supersport encounters.

Hopes were high within his camp that these efforts would be rewarded with one of the coveted invitations to Macau. Instead, the organizer's opaque selection process left him stranded on the waiting list, forcing him to turn down firm offers from three top-tier teams who expected him on the grid. As reported by Speedweek, the lack of transparent criteria for the event's rider selection has continued to frustrate top-tier competitors for years.
Reflecting on the frustrating ordeal, the German rider announced via social media that his chapter in Macau is now permanently finished. Choosing to redirect his energy toward his existing commitments and future racing endeavors, he confirmed that racing through the famous gaming city's barriers is no longer an option for his career moving forward.
