Almansa Tops Moto3 FP1 at Silverstone, Ogden Chasing

David Almansa opened the Moto3 weekend at Silverstone with a confident statement. The Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider was fastest in the first free practice session of the British Grand Prix on Friday morning, clocking a 2'10.553.

Notably, he edged home favorite Scott Ogden from CIP Green Power by 0.403 seconds. Adrian Fernandez of Leopard Racing completed the top three. The 35-minute session was lively from the start, with Ogden crashing at Turn 3 early on, though he was able to continue without significant damage.

Midway through, Maximo Quiles from CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team topped the timesheets, followed by teammate Marco Morelli, then Alvaro Carpe, Eddie O'Shea, and Joel Kelso. But Almansa struck late. With just over three minutes left, he delivered an impressive lap that left his rivals scrambling.

Unfortunately, Quiles crashed at Turn 14 shortly before the checkered flag. Though he appeared unhurt, he couldn't rejoin the session. The top order remained unchanged: Almansa led, with Ogden and Fernandez behind. Joel Kelso and Marco Morelli rounded out the top five.

With this performance, Almansa has shown strong potential for qualifying. Ogden, racing in front of his home crowd, will surely aim to improve in the next session. The pressure is building in the European factory teams, as Moto3 competition this season is extremely tight.
