The second 60-minute session of the day at the prestigious touring car racing event was entirely incident-free, offering co-drivers their very first valuable chance to have the circuit completely to themselves without sharing the asphalt with the primary drivers.
Driving the number 99 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Lochie Dalton emerged as the fastest driver on the timesheets after posting a stellar best lap time of 2:05.8739 seconds. That impressive benchmark was achieved on lap 15 out of a total 17 laps completed during a productive Practice 2.
The battle at the sharp end of the field remained fiercely competitive as Scott Pye representing Triple Eight Race Engineering climbed up the order late in the session. Piloting his Ford Mustang GT, he finished just 0.0875 seconds away from the ultimate pace.
Meanwhile, the third-fastest position was claimed by experienced veteran Tim Slade for Grove Racing. Despite his strong pace, the veteran locked up his brakes and was forced to tour the escape road at Hell Corner immediately after setting his fastest lap of the session.
The competitive order continued with the Team 18 duo of James Courtney and Lee Holdsworth finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Rounding out the remainder of the top ten positions were Zak Best, Tony D’Alberto, Todd Hazelwood, Jarrod Hughes, and Richie Stanaway.
Towards the end of running, Jaxon Evans driving a Toyota Supra for Walkinshaw TWG Racing experienced a minor moment at Murray’s Corner, losing the rear end of his car before safely parking up on the grass verge.
