The opening practice running at Mount Panorama turned into a major setback for Tony D'Alberto after a heavy crash in the closing minutes of Friday's session. The veteran co-driver was behind the wheel of the #38 car when it suffered a sudden loss of grip at the exit of The Dipper, sending the vehicle sliding directly into the outside concrete wall.

D'Alberto admitted that he had no prior warning of any underlying issue, finding himself completely caught out by the fine dust that had accumulated on the racing line from previous cars running wide. The unexpected loss of rear traction midway through the corner proved impossible to save once the car compressed over the undulating section of the famous circuit.

"It took me by surprise a little bit," Tony D'Alberto told Speedcafe. "Every time you come down Skyline this weekend the track’s a little bit different with the dust being brought onto the track by other cars making little errors here and there. I just turned into the Dipper under control and the rear got away from me.">

The extent of the damage was severe enough to rule the #38 machine out for the remainder of Friday's track activity, forcing the team to sit out both Practice 4 and the crucial qualifying session. Despite the setback, the squad remains optimistic about getting the car rebuilt overnight, drawing confidence from the strong pace that Rylan Gray had demonstrated earlier in Practice 3.

With the team fully united behind the driver lineup, the primary focus has shifted toward repairing the chassis properly rather than rushing to make a compromised appearance on track, ensuring they are fully prepared for the challenges awaiting them in the subsequent sessions.
