David Coulthard has revealed that he once offered to give Jeremy Clarkson his London pub for free, but there was one crucial condition attached.
Clarkson, now almost as famous for his farming and pub ventures as he was for his time on Top Gear and The Grand Tour, has turned Diddly Squat Farm into a tourist hotspot, while The Farmer's Dog pub is notoriously hard to book. But Coulthard's story about The Brown Dog in Barnes offers a different twist.
Speaking to Jodie Kidd on her Kidd in a Sweet Shop YouTube series, Coulthard explained: "I bought a pub in Barnes which just didn't work. It was The Brown Dog, and because they closed off all the bloody roads and no one goes in, we couldn't make it work."
"I actually offered it to Jeremy Clarkson. I said, 'Jeremy, I'll give you the pub. It's yours, title deeds [and everything], but if and when you make money, you start cutting us in.' And I think it was just too far from where he lives to make it sensible," he added.
Since stepping away from The Grand Tour, Clarkson has devoted more time to his farm and become a key voice for British farming. He has spoken at protests, including when farmers descended on London with tractors, and has launched initiatives to support farmers with mental health issues. At the end of the latest series of Clarkson's Farm, he revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis, from which he is now in remission.
