Collin Veijer has successfully undergone surgery on his broken left collarbone in Barcelona on Tuesday morning. The 21-year-old rider from Staphorst sustained the injury in a crash during the Austrian Grand Prix last Friday.
The incident occurred in the final stages of the first free practice session at the Red Bull Ring, when Veijer crashed at Turn 6. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider broke his left collarbone, forcing an early end to his Austrian race weekend.
Veijer traveled from Austria to Barcelona on Saturday to prepare for the operation. The procedure took place on Tuesday morning at 09:30 at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus – Grupo Quironsalud, performed by trauma specialist Dr. Xavier Mir.
According to Red Bull KTM Ajo, the surgery went well. The Dutchman was in a stable condition after initial post-operative checks and is expected to leave the hospital within a few hours.
Veijer will then fly back to the Netherlands, where he will begin his rehabilitation as soon as possible. There is no information yet on the duration of his recovery or when he will be able to get back on his Moto2 machine. His return will be determined by the progress of his recovery.
The next Moto2 weekend is scheduled for October 2-4 in Japan. Whether Veijer can already be in action at Mobility Resort Motegi will become clear in the coming days.
Red Bull KTM Ajo thanked the involved medical staff for their quick and professional treatment and wished the Dutchman a speedy and full recovery.
