Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 CEO, has confirmed that the championship will "definitely" return to Germany amid talks to revive the German Grand Prix. The announcement comes as F1 looks to expand its market and revive classic circuits.
Germany last hosted F1 in 2019 at Hockenheimring, where Max Verstappen won a dramatic wet race and Sebastian Vettel finished second from 20th on the grid. Since then, F1 only visited the Nurburgring in 2020 under the Eifel GP name.
Domenicali highlighted Germany's huge market potential, especially with Audi and Mercedes as major manufacturers. "We have Audi that stepped into the business, we have Mercedes," he said. "Germany now wants us to think medium-term if they can come back into the calendar, or even more important, being one of the most important markets for Formula 1 as it was 20 years ago."
Despite a packed 24-race calendar and six sprints, Domenicali stressed that a return to Germany will not be rushed. "It will not be a short-term call, but definitely will happen," he said. "That is very, very important to remember."
Beyond Germany, F1 is also exploring returns to Africa and South Asia, with potential races at Kyalami and India. This aligns with Liberty Media's strategy to broaden the sport's global reach.
