Red Bull chief Christian Horner has taken a sharp jab at his former Formula 1 colleague, Guenther Steiner. The sarcastic remark came to light after the Italian-American former team principal gained immense fame more for his on-screen personality than his actual engineering and racing achievements in the motorsport paddock.

The career trajectories of both figures present a stark contrast within the pinnacle of motorsport over the past decade. While Horner successfully guided Red Bull to numerous championship titles and Grand Prix victories, Steiner spent his tenure struggling in the midfield with the Haas squad from 2014 until 2023, achieving a fifth-place finish in the 2018 Constructors' Championship as their high watermark.

Rather than being celebrated purely for technical prowess or race strategies, Steiner became a global household name primarily through his breakout appearances in the Netflix documentary series, Drive To Survive. His unfiltered rants and raw personality captivated audiences worldwide far beyond his actual operational duties on the pit wall.

During a recent interview with international media, Horner dissected this phenomenon openly, shedding light on how television production can heavily manipulate public perception and narrative arcs within the high-stakes environment of grand prix racing.

"These guys are making a TV show, so they're collecting hours and hours and hours of footage, and it all depends on how you edit something. You can make someone look like a villain or a hero, or vice versa," Horner explained regarding the editing mechanics behind the streaming hit.

Elaborating further on Steiner's post-paddock career, Horner delivered his trademark critique wrapped in a backhanded compliment. "That show was incredibly successful because it suddenly lifted the veil on certain rivalries, personalities, the personalities of the pilots, and certain characters. Guenther Steiner has built a career out of thisg I mean, I don't think he's ever scored a podium in Formula 1!"

Despite poking fun at the lack of silverware during Steiner's managerial stint, the British executive acknowledged the undeniable commercial value brought to the sport. "But good for him. He's a character, a pretty scary character when he worked for us, but yeah, he's brought a whole new fan base to the sport, and that's been fantastic," Horner concluded.

Both veterans now find themselves watching the grands prix from the sidelines, following Steiner's departure from Haas after the 2023 campaign, while Horner himself recently addressed swirling paddock rumors linking him to a high-profile switch to Maranello.
