Casey Stoner Changes Stance on Sharing MotoGP Knowledge at Goodwood 2026

Casey Stoner says he no longer intends to share his MotoGP knowledge without a clear reason or recognition after feeling that the help he has provided to riders in recent years has gone underappreciated.

The two-time MotoGP world champion has been retired since the end of 2012 but has remained involved around the paddock at various points through testing roles and by offering advice to current riders. One of the most visible relationships has been with Francesco Bagnaia, who has received guidance from Stoner during his time with Ducati.

“I miss it, but I've given too much of myself and many times I haven't gotten the responses I expected in return,” Stoner told GPOne at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Stoner said he appreciated Bagnaia publicly thanking him for the assistance he had provided in recent years. Bagnaia won two MotoGP titles with Ducati in 2022 and 2023, while Stoner remains a landmark figure in the Bologna manufacturer’s history after delivering its first MotoGP championship in 2007.

Stoner has now set a firmer boundary around his future involvement. “But I won't do anything else for nothing in the future. I won't give away my knowledge for nothing,” he said. The Australian believes previous experiences left him feeling that people moved on once they had obtained the knowledge he could provide.

“I won't make the same mistake again, I won't help without reason and I won't do it for nothing,” Stoner added. His comments mark a clear change in how he intends to approach any future advisory role within MotoGP.

Stoner has been largely absent from MotoGP during 2026 but recently returned to Europe for World Ducati Week and the Goodwood Festival of Speed as part of Ducati’s centenary celebrations. His experience remains valuable within the paddock, but he has now made clear that any future contribution will need a defined purpose.
