Carlos Sainz has officially signed a multi-year contract extension with Williams, a decision the team describes as a "show of faith" in its long-term project. Sainz, who joined from Ferrari in 2025, had previously expressed frustration over the car's 2026 prospects but has now committed to staying.

The new deal secures Sainz's future with Williams through the team's 50th anniversary season in 2027. This announcement follows news that teammate Alex Albon has also agreed to a new contract, keeping the duo as Williams' driver line-up for a third consecutive season.

Since joining Williams, Sainz has scored two grand prix podiums, in Azerbaijan and Qatar, marking the team's first podiums since Lance Stroll in 2017, excluding George Russell's rain-soaked second place at the 2021 Belgian GP. He also finished third in the US Grand Prix Sprint.

"I'm thrilled to announce my continued journey with the Williams F1 Team family," said Sainz. "I truly believe in the people who form this team, both at the factory and at the racetracks, and the investments and hard work that are happening in the background."

"We have what it takes to turn this around together. I'm as committed as I was on day one to helping get Williams back to where it belongs," added the Spanish driver.

Williams Team Principal James Vowles stated that with this agreement, Williams now boasts one of the strongest driver line-ups on the grid. "From the moment he joined, Carlos' talent behind the steering wheel and dedication back at the factory have been extremely valuable for this project," said Vowles. "He is a leader of this team, and I'm thrilled that he can see what's possible as we continue to rebuild it."

The new contract is a positive signal for Williams as it prepares for the 2026 regulation changes. With both drivers committed, the team aims to compete more competitively in the future.
