Nicolo Bulega has no doubts about the technical reasons why his riding style could be a better fit for MotoGP than that of Toprak Razgatlioglu. The Italian rider will step up to the premier class with VR46 Ducati in 2027, and he believes his corner speed could be the difference.
Bulega and Razgatlioglu had an intense rivalry in WorldSBK. After Razgatlioglu left for MotoGP, Bulega dominated the championship, but the two will meet again on the same track in 2027. Bulega admits that his battles with Razgatlioglu helped him grow as a rider.
“I learned a lot from Toprak,” Bulega said via GPOne. “Last year we had a bike that wasn’t old, but it wasn’t as new as the one we have now either. This bike represents a huge step forward. Toprak was very strong, and I learned a lot from him. When I saw him go on to win, it brought back memories of some of the battles we had last year.”
Despite their mutual respect, Bulega believes his riding style is better suited to MotoGP. The key difference lies in corner entry. Bulega relies on mid-corner speed, which he says is crucial in MotoGP with today’s advanced aerodynamics.
“Toprak and I have very different riding styles. If you recall, last year he was very strong, especially in certain phases, while I had a different strength. I ride aggressively, but not in the same way as Toprak. My speed through the middle of the corner is better and in MotoGP, with all this aerodynamics, you have to be very fast right in the middle of the turn. That’s why, if I move to MotoGP, not that I’m saying it will be easy, but maybe my riding style could be a better fit for this type of bike.”
Razgatlioglu will have one season of MotoGP experience before Bulega joins. However, Bulega has already tested extensively for Ducati’s 850cc project and brings recent intel on the Pirelli tyres. This combination could be valuable for a quick adaptation.
Their rivalry in MotoGP 2027 will be one of the most intriguing storylines. Will Bulega truly gain an edge thanks to his riding style, or will Razgatlioglu’s experience prevail? One thing is for sure: their WorldSBK duels proved that neither ever holds back.
