Nicolo Bulega ended Friday at the Italian WorldSBK round in frustration after suffering two crashes in practice. The Ducati rider admitted he was angry with his performance, especially as crashes have been incredibly rare for him this season.
Bulega arrived at Cremona Circuit for round 10 with a mathematical chance to win his first world title. However, two crashes in one day dealt a significant blow to the Italian, who had only crashed a couple of times in practice across the previous nine rounds and had never failed to finish a race.
“Honestly, at the moment I'm just angry for this Friday,” Bulega told WorldSBK.com after FP2. “So, now I'm just focused to have my good feeling back, and then I will think about the other things [title chances].”
Bulega explained that he didn't feel good all day but is confident he can recover to his usual performance level on Saturday. “Honestly, today the feeling was not the best. I was not able to ride like I wanted, so we are working with the team. Maybe we know why, so I'm confident that tomorrow I will be back at my performance,” he added.
He stressed that there was something on the bike he didn't like, but his team knows how to fix it for the race. “We have to work with the team because today I had something I didn't like on the bike. But I think for tomorrow we know how to put the bike in a condition that I can push like I want.”
Meanwhile, his main rival Iker Lecuona impressed by topping both practice sessions. The Spanish rider even said his feeling in FP2 was the best he's ever had on the Panigale V4 R. Lecuona is now a serious threat to Bulega's title hopes.
On Saturday, Bulega must outscore Lecuona by 15 points to be crowned champion. With the bike not yet ideal, the mission won't be easy. However, Bulega remains optimistic he can bounce back and secure a strong result in the race.
As reported by Crash.net, this incident is a mental test for Bulega as he chases his first title. His ability to recover from adversity will determine whether he can clinch the championship at Cremona or must wait until the next round.
