Nicolo Bulega has officially sealed the 2026 WorldSBK title after a commanding performance in Race 2 at Cremona. The Ducati rider becomes the first Italian to win the Superbike crown since Max Biaggi, and the first to do so with the Borgo Panigale manufacturer. His near-flawless season included numerous records for wins, poles, fastest laps, and hat-tricks.
The Cremona round was the culmination of Bulega's dominant campaign. From the start, he consistently ran at the front, exploiting the superior power of the Ducati Panigale V4 R. The Race 2 victory secured the championship, closing the season in style. Ducati had already wrapped up the constructors' and teams' titles earlier, underscoring their supremacy.
It wasn't just the factory Ducati team celebrating; satellite outfit Barni Spark Racing also made history by clinching a fourth consecutive Independent Teams' Trophy. This success was largely thanks to Yari Montella's consistent points-scoring throughout the season. Barni's achievement adds to Ducati's impressive haul in WorldSBK.
With this title, Bulega is set to move to MotoGP in 2027. He leaves WorldSBK as the reigning champion, a valuable asset before facing the new challenge in the premier class. His switch to MotoGP has long been anticipated, and now he has proven he is ready to compete at the highest level.
The final standings reflect Ducati's dominance at the top. Bulega leads with 602 points, followed by teammate Iker Lecuona on 469. Yari Montella completes the top three with 269 points. Meanwhile, Bimota's Axel Bassani finished seventh with 184 points, and defending champion Alvaro Bautista could only manage tenth with 125 points.
The 2026 WorldSBK season will be remembered as Bulega's and Ducati's year. With the constructors' and teams' titles already secured, plus the riders' crown, Ducati once again asserted its status as the dominant force in the Superbike World Championship. Rivals will need to work hard to close the gap next season.
