Bezzecchi Beats Marquez to Stunning Aragon MotoGP Pole

Marco Bezzecchi delivered a stunning performance at MotorLand Aragon to secure pole position for the Aragon Grand Prix, edging out Ducati rival Marc Marquez by less than a tenth of a second. Despite lingering pain from a heavy crash at the German Grand Prix in July, the factory Aprilia rider was the only one to break the 1m46s barrier in qualifying, setting two laps good enough for pole.

Marc Marquez, who has won a record seven times at Aragon in MotoGP, had to settle for second after making a mistake on his final lap, while his younger brother Alex Marquez took third. As the 15-minute session began, Marquez was immediately up to speed, setting a time of 1m45.136s to shatter the circuit record set by Bezzecchi in practice.

But lap times tumbled even further, with Bezzecchi snatching the top spot minutes later thanks to an incredible 1m44.984s. Alex Marquez also joined the fight, going third fastest to set up an intriguing battle ahead of the final runs. As the field switched to fresh tyres, Aprilia maintained its advantage, leaving Ducati to fight for the remaining front-row spots.

Marc Marquez closed the gap to just 0.013s on his final attempt, but a mistake at Turn 14 ruined his lap. Bezzecchi claimed his first pole since the Italian Grand Prix in May, continuing his impressive form since returning from injury at Silverstone. Marquez wound up 0.089s behind, with Alex Marquez another two tenths back in third.

British GP winner Raul Fernandez qualified fourth for Trackhouse Aprilia, beating factory counterpart Jorge Martin, who rose to fifth. KTM's Pedro Acosta held sixth despite crashing at Turn 8. Fabio di Giannantonio took seventh for VR46, while Francesco Bagnaia came through Q1 for eighth. Johann Zarco continued his comeback with ninth, beating LCR team-mate Diogo Moreira, who switched to his second bike after a crash in Q1.
