Aston Martin has officially announced that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will remain with the team for the 2027 season. The confirmation ends months of speculation surrounding Alonso's future, with his contract set to expire after 2026. As a result, Aston Martin will field an unchanged driver line-up for a fifth consecutive season.
Alonso, a two-time world champion, had been one of the biggest names without a confirmed seat beyond 2026. Throughout the year, he repeatedly stated he felt competitive and motivated despite the team's early struggles. In April, he indicated no immediate intention of leaving F1. However, he also acknowledged that June's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix could be his final appearance at the venue, and promised to settle his longer-term plans after the summer break.
Now, that uncertainty is over. Alonso has signed a new contract and committed for the long term. "I'm very happy to sign a new contract with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team," he said. "I took my time to make this decision, but racing is my life, my passion, and I know I still have the speed and determination to compete at the highest level. I'm committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed. I truly believe in what we are building: we have strong leadership, incredible people, partners and facilities. I look forward to making more memories on the race track in front of the passionate fans. Their energy creates an atmosphere that inspires me and is what makes our sport special."
Since joining Aston Martin in 2023, Alonso has scored eight podiums and finished fourth in the drivers' championship in his first season. He has now started 85 grands prix for the team, scoring 335 points, eight podiums and three fastest laps. His best results remain second-place finishes at Monaco, Canada and the Netherlands in 2023. However, results have been harder to come by since that opening campaign. Aston Martin endured another difficult year in 2026 despite its move to works Honda power and continued investment across its technical operation.
Stroll will also continue with the team into 2027, which will be his 11th season in F1 and another extension of his long association with the Silverstone operation. The Canadian first joined in 2019 and remained through the transition from Racing Point to Aston Martin. Since the Aston Martin name returned to F1 in 2021, Stroll has made 126 starts, scored 183 points and achieved a best finish of fourth at the 2023 Australian Grand Prix.

"I've been on this journey since the beginning and I believe we have the resources and the people to become a winning team. There is so much hard work going on at Silverstone with real progress being made, and the determination I see in every department is a huge motivation for me. The decision to retain Alonso and Stroll provides stability for Aston Martin as they continue to build a foundation for competing at the front. With new technical regulations coming in 2026, Alonso's experience and technical feedback will be invaluable. Meanwhile, Stroll will continue to contribute with his deep understanding of the team. The 2027 season will be a test for both drivers to bring the team back to the forefront.
