“I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Aston Martin,” Alonso said. “I took my time to make this decision, but racing is my life, my passion, and I know I still have the speed and determination to compete at the highest level. I’m committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed.”
Alonso's journey with Aston Martin has been a rollercoaster. He started with six podiums in his first eight races in 2023, but since then, the team has struggled to keep up in development. The 2026 season has been particularly tough, with an uncompetitive Honda engine leaving them 10th in the standings with just three points – all scored by Alonso – ahead of only newcomers Cadillac.
Aston Martin also confirmed that Lance Stroll will stay for a ninth season. “I’m very happy to continue with Aston Martin for the long term,” Stroll said. “I’ve been on this journey since the beginning and I believe we have the resources and the people to become a winning team. There is so much hard work going on at Silverstone with real progress being made.”
This double announcement provides stability for Aston Martin amid regulatory uncertainty. With both drivers committed long-term, the team can focus on building for the future. Despite current struggles, the experience of Alonso and Stroll could attract sponsors and technical talent.
For Alonso, this may be the final chapter of his illustrious career. With 32 grand prix victories, he remains hungry for success. The challenge is steep, but his determination is unwavering.
