MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Miguel Oliveira, set to join BMW in WorldSBK for 2026, affirms he is not closing the door on a MotoGP return. In an interview ahead of the Indonesian Grand Prix, Oliveira highlights his one-year contract with BMW while keeping future options open in the premier class.

According to official sources, Oliveira faces his final MotoGP races before switching to WorldSBK alongside Danilo Petrucci. He will hand over his Yamaha to Toprak Razgatlioglu, currently racing BMW in WorldSBK. Despite this, Oliveira remains motivated to secure strong results in Mandalika after scoring just two points in Japan.

Reasons for Move to WorldSBK and BMW

Oliveira decided to switch upon realizing the difficulty of securing a full-time MotoGP seat. "When I realized it would be hard to get a full-time spot in MotoGP, I considered alternatives, including a test rider role," he stated. "The deciding factor was my desire to race. That passion is still strong, and WorldSBK was the way to fulfill it. I sought the most competitive team and bike, and BMW seemed the right choice."

He added that BMW offers significant potential, as their bike has proven capable of winning races in WorldSBK. Though hard to assess externally, Oliveira believes the competitiveness, evidenced by victories, justified his selection. Furthermore, his contract includes an option for 2027, providing flexibility after an initial adaptation year from MotoGP to the new series.

Open Door for MotoGP Return

While committed to BMW, Oliveira does not rule out MotoGP. "Of course, I have a one-year contract with BMW, but I'm not saying the ultimate goal is to return," he said. "MotoGP has been my life for the last 15 years, and doors don't close completely. There's definitely an open door, and who knows what the future holds if things go well in Superbike. I think I'll be able to choose later."

He also noted WorldSBK's growth potential as a championship, making the move sensible now while preserving MotoGP prospects. Oliveira regrets not competing directly against Razgatlioglu in either series but focuses on rivaling top riders.

Rejection of Yamaha Offer and Mandalika Expectations

Oliveira dismissed speculation on failed talks with Yamaha for WorldSBK, as mentioned by Nicolò Canepa. "I won't comment on his statements, but Yamaha tried to sign me," he revealed. "However, I didn't see the same potential in Yamaha as in BMW regarding bike performance. That's why I chose BMW."

For the Indonesian GP, Oliveira hopes for improvement despite Michelin tires at Mandalika typically challenging his setup. "We come to every Grand Prix to give our best and maximize our tools," he said. "Here, there's a different tire carcass that's usually tough, so we'll try to step forward. My goal is to enjoy what's left and seize opportunities for good results."

With extensive MotoGP experience, Oliveira is expected to contribute valuably to BMW in WorldSBK while eyeing long-term career prospects. Sportrik Media will track his career transition and final season performances.
