Bagnaia Wins Japan GP, Marquez Secures 2025 MotoGP Title

MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo Team claimed victory at the Motul Japan Grand Prix on September 28, 2025, while teammate Marc Marquez sealed the 2025 MotoGP World Championship with a second-place finish. The race at Mobility Resort Motegi also saw Joan Mir of Honda HRC Castrol return to the podium.

Thrilling Race Dynamics

Starting from pole, Bagnaia executed a flawless start, leading from the first lap. Pedro Acosta (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) climbed to second, followed by Marquez, while Mir dropped to fifth. By lap two, Bagnaia had built a lead of over one second, showcasing the prowess of his Ducati Desmosedici.

Despite concerns over smoke from Bagnaia’s bike mid-race and in the final laps, he maintained composure to secure the win. Marquez overtook Acosta on lap 11 to claim second, locking in enough points to clinch the championship. Mir, with a strong performance, passed Acosta to take third, marking his first podium of the season.

Midfield Battles

Acosta struggled as his tires wore out, eventually running wide at Turn 1 and dropping to 17th. In the midfield, Franco Morbidelli of Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team briefly held fifth, while Fabio Quartararo of Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team settled for eighth. Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing took fourth, followed by Alex Marquez and Raul Fernandez.

Notable Performances and Future Prospects

Rookie Somkiat Chantra of Idemitsu Honda LCR earned points with a 15th-place finish, while Johann Zarco and Fermin Aldeguer rounded out the top ten. Bagnaia’s victory and Marquez’s title underscore Ducati’s dominance in 2025. As the championship heads to the Indonesian Grand Prix on October 3-5, Sportrik anticipates fierce competition, with Bagnaia and Marquez leading the charge.
