Aprilia Frustrated as Ogura Exit Boosts Yamaha

MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola has expressed disappointment over Ai Ogura’s decision to leave Trackhouse Racing ahead of the 2027 MotoGP season.

The Japanese rider has informed the team he will not renew his contract, with strong indications pointing towards a move to a factory outfit, widely understood to be Yamaha. The move reflects a transition towards full factory support and long-term development prospects.

Trackhouse team principal Davide Brivio confirmed that such a scenario had been anticipated from the outset, as strong performances in satellite teams often lead to factory opportunities.

“When we signed him, we considered the possibility that after two years he would want a factory seat. That’s part of the deal,” Brivio said.

From a performance standpoint, Ogura has shown significant progress throughout the 2026 season, demonstrating competitive pace at COTA before technical issues and strong late-race speed at Jerez, enhancing his value in the rider market.

Rivola acknowledged the disappointment but emphasised that signing Ogura was strategically the right decision.

“On one hand it’s disappointing, but on the other it proves the choice was correct. Davide had a forward-looking vision,” Rivola stated.

Aprilia has already finalised its factory structure, with Marco Bezzecchi retained and Francesco Bagnaia expected to join for 2027, reinforcing a focus on experience and consistent performance.

Attention now shifts to Trackhouse’s replacement strategy, with Brivio indicating a preference for experienced riders over rookies. Names such as Joan Mir, Maverick Vinales, and Alex Rins are among the potential candidates.

The situation also strengthens Raul Fernandez’s position within the team, as stability becomes a priority in satellite development programmes. A decision on Ogura’s replacement is expected soon as the 2027 rider market continues to evolve.
