Alonso & Stroll: Honda's New PU 'Not Good Enough' for Aston Martin
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
The Dutch GP presented yet another double Q1 elimination for Aston Martin and Honda

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have delivered a blunt assessment of Honda's latest power unit after its debut at the Dutch Grand Prix. Despite Aston Martin's strong showing in Hungary, the new engine failed to deliver the expected step at Zandvoort, leaving both drivers struggling in qualifying.

Stroll had hinted at improved power during a filming day, but the reality on track was different. Both drivers were eliminated in Q1, citing balance and power issues. "Not really, maybe a bit, but not nearly enough. On the chassis side, we're quite good. We made a big step in Budapest. Drivability and power is the next thing we need to work on," Stroll explained.

The Canadian also highlighted inconsistent engine behavior, particularly under braking and downshifts. "Not good, not good. It's a lottery. We're just not getting consistent engine braking and a lot of rejected downshifts," he said.

Pressure Mounts on Honda Ahead of Monza

Alonso, while more diplomatic, did not hide his disappointment. "Unfortunately, on track there's not much we can do. We need to rely on big changes from the factory or software. This has to come from Japan, so it's not from one day to the next. It's more towards Monza where we need to find another step," he stated.

The setback in qualifying is a significant blow in a sport where momentum is crucial. Honda now faces a major challenge to close the gap to rivals. With only two weeks until the Italian GP, time is short. Monza's high-speed straights will be a true test for Aston Martin and Honda. Can they bounce back? Only time will tell.
