Fernando Alonso has ended speculation about his Formula 1 future by signing a contract extension with Aston Martin for the 2027 season. The announcement confirms that the two-time world champion will continue racing in F1, alongside Lance Stroll, who has also been retained.
Alonso, who will turn 46 in 2027, has been with the Silverstone-based team since 2023 and has scored eight podiums during his tenure. His decision to stay comes after a period of reflection, with the Spaniard ultimately choosing to prolong his career in the sport he loves.

In an official statement, Alonso expressed his delight: “I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Aston Martin Aramco. I took my time to reflect on this decision, but racing is my life and my passion; I know I still have the speed and determination needed to compete at the highest level.”
The veteran also highlighted his long-term commitment to the team’s project, praising the leadership, people, and facilities at Aston Martin. “I firmly believe in what we are building,” he added.
Stroll Also Extends
Lance Stroll, who has been part of the team since its inception, will continue as Alonso’s teammate. “I’m really happy to continue my journey with Aston Martin Aramco long-term,” Stroll said. “I believe we have the right resources and people to become a winning team.”
With both drivers confirmed, Aston Martin can now focus on preparing for the new technical regulations in 2026 and aim to bounce back from a challenging 2025 season.
