MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing admitted he has “no answer” for his dominant performance at the 2026 Spanish MotoGP in Jerez, describing the victory as something “magic”.
Arriving at the weekend after a difficult start to the season with Ducati’s GP26, Marquez showed strong pace from Friday and converted fifth on the grid into a commanding win by nearly two seconds.
He overtook Marc Marquez in the early stages before controlling the race, finishing ahead of Marco Bezzecchi in second place.

“What happened? Good question. I don’t have the answer. I think it’s something magic here in Jerez. From Friday I was flying, but honestly I don’t know why,” said Alex Marquez.

He explained that his approach focused on extracting the positive aspects of the bike, despite ongoing technical limitations that had affected earlier rounds.
“We tried to ride over the problems and focus on the positives. This bike has a lot of strengths, but we were not able to extract them in the first three races,” he added.
The victory was built on precise race execution, including an early attacking move followed by consistent pace management based on data gathered during practice sessions.
“When I saw I was second on the first lap, I knew I had a big opportunity. After overtaking Marc, the goal was to avoid mistakes and maintain the same pace I had in Friday practice,” he explained.
Ducati introduced updates to the GP26 aimed at improving braking performance, although Marquez noted that some issues remained unresolved.
Looking ahead to the post-race test at Jerez, he emphasised the importance of analysing the weekend’s changes to understand the source of his performance breakthrough.
“We have many things to test and understand. With the base we had today, I think we can fight in the next race,” he said.
The result marks a significant turning point for Alex Marquez’s 2026 campaign, positioning him as a contender heading into the next round at Le Mans.
