Alex Dunne stormed to victory in the first Formula 2 Feature Race of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend. The Rodin Motorsport driver finished with a 4.3-second lead over teammate Martinius Stenshorne, completing a 1-2 for the team. Dino Beganovic of DAMS Lucas Oil completed the podium in third.
This win proves Dunne's quality on the challenging Baku street circuit. From the start, he controlled the pace and kept the chasing pack at bay. Stenshorne, who started second, had to settle for second, while Beganovic showed consistency to finish third.
Behind them, Rafael Camara of Invicta Racing finished fourth and took over the championship lead from Nikola Tsolov. Camara now leads by a narrow margin, while Tsolov had to endure a tough race after failing to finish. The Campos Racing driver suffered a DNF and lost momentum in the title race.
The race was intense with several incidents causing multiple drivers to retire. A total of eight drivers did not finish, including Tsolov, Joshua Duerksen, and Mari Boya. This situation could drastically change the championship standings ahead of the next race.
With this result, the title fight heats up. Dunne, impressive in Baku, now eyes a spot among the title contenders. Meanwhile, Camara, consistently finishing at the front, seized the opportunity to take the points lead. The second Feature Race in Azerbaijan will be the next test for the drivers to showcase their skills.
