Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Irish driver Alex Dunne has officially joined the Alpine F1 Team development structure after being announced as a new member of the Alpine Academy for the 2026 campaign.
The 20-year-old previously spent nearly 18 months inside the McLaren junior programme before leaving the organisation last year while pursuing a different direction in his racing career. During his time with McLaren F1 Team, Dunne was given two Formula 1 FP1 appearances while simultaneously competing in his rookie season in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
Dunne concluded the 2025 Formula 2 season in fifth place in the drivers’ standings and will return to the grid in 2026 for his second campaign in the category. As part of his agreement with Alpine, the Irish driver will run the Enstone-based team’s colours on his Rodin Motorsport Formula 2 entry.

For the upcoming season, Dunne will partner Norwegian driver Martinius Stenshorne at Rodin as both drivers aim to establish themselves as contenders in the championship.
“I am really happy to be joining the Alpine Academy and making this next step in my racing career,” Dunne said.
“I am very grateful for the trust the team has in me to represent the team and the brand on the global stage in FIA Formula 2, which has proven to be the perfect place to progress young drivers into professional racing roles.”
Dunne also outlined his ambitions after gaining valuable experience during his rookie campaign last year.
“Naturally, after a competitive season in 2025, the goal this year is to fight for the drivers' championship.”
“Last year was a great experience on many fronts. Lots learned, lots gained, some challenges along the way, but everything has made me a better driver, a better person, and I aim to give my all for Alpine as an Alpine Academy driver.”
“It would be great to reward the team for their faith with wins and podiums and I am excited to work together with everyone in this next chapter of my career.”
