Alex Albon has shared a surprising encounter with Max Verstappen while learning to e-foil during the summer break in Sardinia. The Williams driver was struggling to stay balanced on the electrically powered surfboard when someone zoomed past him in complete serenity.
Speaking on the team's official Team Torque podcast alongside teammate Carlos Sainz and principal James Vowles, Albon recalled the moment. "I was learning how to e-foil. Have you ever tried this? And I'm going around, and I see this guy come past," he explained. "He's sitting on the edge, his legs are almost off the front, and he's going flat out. He looks like a Buddha, just complete peace."
At first, Albon didn't recognize him. "I was like, 'Who is this guy?' while I'm struggling. It was Max," he said. "I didn't know it was him at the time. I said to Lily, 'Look who this guy is.' Then Kelly and Lily were chatting, and we realized we were next to each other. He said, 'Oh, yeah. I saw you falling off your e-foil!'"

Albon's break also included a quick trip to South Africa, a week in the Dolomites, and final training in Monaco. Now, Williams and the rest of the F1 grid are back at Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix.
Albon had a tough start to the weekend, finishing 16th in the sprint and qualifying in the same spot for the main race. Still, the holiday story adds a human touch to the intense world of F1.
