Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane has firmly dismissed the sharp criticism directed at his driver by Max Verstappen following their controversial collision during the second practice session. Tensions flared on the tarmac as both competitors vied for the exact same piece of asphalt, prompting fiery remarks from the reigning world champion regarding the rookie's future prospects on the grid.
Although describing the on-track coming together as entirely avoidable, Permane stood up for his young charge's approach around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez layout. He clarified that the incident was simply a byproduct of the high-stakes preparation required to secure optimal tyre temperatures ahead of the opening corner sequence.
"So when you're doing a lap here, an out lap or a cool-down lap, one thing that's really important is to do the last sector fast because doing that gives you tyres for Turn 1," Permane explained while detailing the technical context behind the closely contested moment.

Addressing the notion that the New Zealander was looking for trouble against a senior figure within the wider manufacturer stable, Permane rejected the premise entirely. He expressed confidence that both drivers would reach a rational understanding once the adrenaline of the session had fully worn off.
"That's not the case. Look, I'm sure they've both got their opinion on it. I think when they look at it in the cold light of day, they'll be calm and think, actually, we could have both done better," he concluded.
