4 Points Each: Antonelli and Bearman Face F1 Ban Threat in 2026

Ahead of the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Kimi Antonelli and Ollie Bearman lead the F1 penalty points standings with four points each. Both are in danger of a race ban if they offend again, as accumulating 12 points within 12 months results in a one-race suspension.

The penalty points system, introduced in 2014, is designed to keep driver behavior in check on track, akin to road penalty systems. Stewards award points based on the severity of incidents, and points expire after 12 months. If a driver collects 12 points in that period, they are automatically banned from the next race. Kevin Magnussen became the first driver to serve such a ban at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Antonelli has a golden opportunity to clear his record at Zandvoort. Two of his four points will expire after the Dutch GP, specifically on August 31, 2026, following his collision with Charles Leclerc at the same circuit last year. If he keeps his nose clean, his penalty load will drop significantly before the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. In contrast, Bearman must wait until after Monza to see his tally reduce, keeping him under pressure for the next two rounds.

The full list shows 10 out of 22 drivers have active penalty points. Alex Albon, Lewis Hamilton, Lance Stroll, and Yuki Tsunoda each have three points, with various incidents spread across the 2025 and 2026 seasons. This situation adds tension amid fierce competition, as one small mistake could prove costly for their careers in this intriguing season.

With much of the season remaining, drivers at the top of the penalty points table must be extra cautious. Every aggressive maneuver or procedural violation could bring them closer to a race ban unseen in the modern era. Will Antonelli or Bearman manage to keep their records clean?
