The 2026 MotoGP world championship battle has tightened dramatically as Marc Marquez powered to a brilliant victory in the Motegi Sprint race. This crucial win shakes up the standings, narrowing the championship gap significantly ahead of Sunday's main grand prix.
Starting from pole position, Jorge Martin saw his early advantage slip away as tyre degradation plagued his Aprilia machine in the closing stages, compounded by a one-place penalty for exceeding track limits on the final lap.
Further down the order, the chasing pack endured a painful afternoon as Marco Bezzecchi slipped to sixth following a risky gamble on the medium rear tyre compound.

Meanwhile, podium hopes for both Pedro Acosta and Fabio di Giannantonio came to an abrupt end when they were wiped out by Alex Marquez at Turn 2.
