The qualifying session for the 2026 MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang delivered a thrilling family showdown on the front row. Alex Marquez emerged victorious to claim pole position, edging out his older brother in a closely contested battle. Riding the Gresini Ducati GP26 machine, the Spanish rider clocked a sensational lap time of 1 minute 56.493 seconds to secure the premier grid slot.

The fight for supremacy on the time sheets kept the paddock on edge from the moment the session got underway. Marc Marquez, representing the factory Ducati Lenovo squad, had to settle for second place. The multiple world champion finished just 0.070 seconds shy of his younger brother's benchmark, setting up an explosive scenario for the upcoming races at the demanding Sepang circuit.

Meanwhile, the front row was rounded out by an impressive performance from Pedro Acosta, who secured third position for Red Bull KTM. The young Spaniard squeezed his RC16 machine right into the mix among the dominant Ducati riders. Behind them, a strong resurgence from Aprilia saw their surviving riders lock down the fourth and fifth spots on the grid.
