Formula 1 returns to Malaysia this weekend as Sepang takes over hosting duties for the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix. The event marks the return of F1 racing to Malaysia for the first time since 2017.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally scheduled to take place at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. However, the event has been moved to Malaysia, with Sepang stepping in to host the race.
The full weekend schedule at Formula 1 Sepang runs from Friday, October 2 through Sunday, October 4, with drivers set to complete three practice sessions before qualifying and the main race.

2026 F1 Bahrain GP Schedule at Sepang
Free Practice 1 will open the weekend on Friday, October 2 at 11:30 local time in Malaysia. Free Practice 2 will then take place at 15:00.
Saturday, October 3 will feature Free Practice 3 at 11:30 before qualifying gets underway at 15:00. The qualifying session will determine the starting order for Sunday's Grand Prix.
The 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix will then take place on Sunday, October 4. The race is scheduled to start at 14:00 local time in Malaysia and is set to run for 56 laps.
The afternoon start at Sepang means Malaysian fans will be able to watch the Grand Prix during the daytime. The event will also create different broadcast times for international viewers depending on their respective time zones.
With Sepang returning to the Formula 1 calendar as a replacement venue for Bahrain, this weekend represents the championship's first visit to Malaysia since the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix.
