Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Weather conditions are expected to play only a minor role during the 2026 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit. The second round of the Formula 1 season is forecast to take place under stable and predominantly dry conditions.

Teams have already enjoyed clear skies and calm weather during the first two days of running. Friday’s opening sessions of the sprint weekend took place in bright sunshine with temperatures around 12°C, providing ideal conditions for teams to begin evaluating performance and collecting tyre data.

Similar weather continued into Saturday when the sprint race and qualifying sessions were held. Temperatures climbed into the mid-to-high teens with sunshine and light winds, allowing teams to focus almost entirely on car performance without having to adapt strategies around changing weather conditions.

With dry asphalt across both days, drivers were able to build confidence on the recently resurfaced circuit and gather representative tyre data ahead of the 56-lap grand prix.

Race day conditions are expected to remain settled, although slightly cooler compared to Saturday. Sunday in Shanghai is forecast to feature sunny intervals with increased cloud cover and temperatures peaking at around 14°C during the afternoon.

Wind speeds are predicted to remain modest, with gusts generally below 16 mph. As a result, aerodynamic balance and car stability are unlikely to be significantly affected throughout the race.

Crucially for teams and drivers, the probability of rain during the race window remains very low. Some forecasts suggest a slight chance of precipitation later in the evening, but rainfall impacting the grand prix itself is considered unlikely.

The slightly cooler ambient temperatures could help limit thermal tyre degradation compared to hotter events. This may allow teams to extend stints or reduce overheating concerns through Shanghai’s long-radius corners and traction-heavy sections, making tyre management and energy deployment key factors alongside outright pace.
