Tension filled the iconic tarmac as the highly anticipated qualifying session kicked off under unpredictable weather conditions. The track, initially damp from residual moisture, gradually dried out as the sun broke through, presenting a massive challenge for drivers forced to make split-second decisions on slick tyres over tricky patches.
Matt Payne stole the show during the opening stages, setting the pace with a stellar lap time of 1:08.4079 seconds. His exceptional run handed a much-needed morale boost to the team as they prepare for a fiercely contested battle at the historic circuit.
Meanwhile, the battle at the sharp end was underscored by a heroic charge from Chaz Mostert, who pulled off a last-lap flyer to rocket from outside the top ten into third place. Reflecting on his dramatic turnaround after a difficult preceding day, Mostert noted, "Tough session. When you add weather and I think everyone thought it was going to be wet and then it starts to dryg I’m surprised to get through. I had a nightmare run yesterday, so it’s a good reward for our car crew."

The competitive grid took further shape with Brodie Kostecki securing second position, sandwiched right at the front amongst the championship contenders. However, the tricky conditions caught out several drivers, highlighting the razor-thin margin for error when pushing to the absolute limit on a drying circuit.
With extraordinarily tight gaps across the leaderboard and crucial championship points on the line, teams are now shifting their focus toward race strategy and setup adjustments ahead of the main event.
