A crucial decision regarding the final lineup inside the factory Honda garage for the MotoGP world championship is reportedly imminent. According to reports from Sky Italia, Diogo Moreira is widely expected to be officially named as the factory HRC teammate to the former world champion for the upcoming 2027 season.
Honda previously confirmed the blockbuster signings of the French star and rookie David Alonso back in July, alongside ongoing multi-year agreements secured by the incumbent rider Johann Zarco who remains positioned at LCR. However, the exact garage allocation for both young talents had been kept under wraps until now.
Moreira's promotion to the factory squad has been heavily influenced by his stellar rookie campaign, highlighted by a notable sprint podium finish at Motegi alongside impressive lap times recorded during the Red Bull Ring 850cc and Pirelli development test.
Meanwhile, Alonso—currently sitting fifth in the Moto2 world standings following an unfortunate first-turn incident in Indonesia involving his teammate Dani Holgado—is reportedly guaranteed full factory-spec machinery housed within the LCR structure for his premier class debut.
Endorsing the strategic lineup choice, former MotoGP rider Cal Crutchlow emphasized that the promotion is thoroughly merited given the rapid progression displayed on track. '[Moreira] deserves to be there before David Alonso, in my opinion. He's had a year at it. He's regularly beating the other Honda riders, or there or thereabouts, in his first year as a rookie. So in my opinion it’s an absolute no-brainer,' Crutchlow noted while speaking on the world feed broadcast.
