Veteran driver David Reynolds remains without a confirmed deal for the upcoming 2027 season as discussions regarding his future in the Supercars championship continue. At 41 years of age, the 2017 Bathurst winner has yet to secure a contract extension with Team 18, despite long-standing expectations that he would be retained by the squad.
With only three events remaining in the current calendar, including this weekend's Gold Coast 500 where he is a two-time victor, time is beginning to tighten for the seasoned competitor. Addressing his ongoing contract uncertainty, Reynolds emphasized his approach of blocking out potential distractions to maintain peak performance on the race track.
"I just take every day as it comes," Reynolds said of his situation. "I don't think about that it could be my last one because that's when you start to get emotional and not thinking about the job. So I'm not thinking about that. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, doesn't."
Team 18 appears to represent his primary pathway for a full-time seat next year, with the vast majority of the 2027 grid already locked in by rival outfits. The squad had previously targeted Grove Racing standout Matt Payne, but must wait at least another season as the young Kiwi remains under contract.
Discussions between Reynolds, his management, and team bosses took place ahead of the Bathurst 1000 to evaluate performance and expectations moving forward. Acknowledging the need for enhanced preparation away from the circuit, Reynolds remains fully committed to securing his place in the premier class.
