David Coulthard is reportedly set to join the management structure of Alexander Albon, providing additional guidance as the Williams driver navigates his Formula 1 career.
Coulthard brings extensive experience from 246 race starts and 13 grand prix victories. His role is expected to give Albon direct access to a driver mentor familiar with competitive pressure, career decisions and the internal dynamics of Formula 1.
Albon has been managed exclusively for several years by Jacques Heckstall-Smith, a former Red Bull Racing employee who will continue in his position. Heckstall-Smith is also understood to have a strong relationship with Coulthard, meaning the additional structure would not replace the existing management arrangement.

An early indication of Coulthard’s involvement was seen on Friday at the Belgian Grand Prix, where the pair were spotted speaking during FP1 at Spa-Francorchamps. Coulthard has known Albon since the Thai driver’s Red Bull period and still holds an ambassadorial role with the team.
Albon returned to the grid with Williams in 2022 after losing his Red Bull seat at the end of 2020 and sitting out the 2021 season. Since joining, he has developed into one of the most consistent figures in the team’s recovery programme.
In 2025, Albon helped Williams finish fifth in the constructors’ standings alongside Carlos Sainz. It represented the team’s best result in eight years and reinforced Albon’s importance to its development.
The 2026 campaign has been more difficult, however, with Williams lacking competitiveness during the opening phase and falling down the order compared with last season. That situation increases the importance of career management and Albon’s longer-term evaluation of his position.
Coulthard’s involvement, should the structure be formally completed, would provide Albon with an additional perspective from a former grand prix winner as he manages the challenges of 2026 and considers his next steps with Williams.
