Organizers of the Dakar Rally have officially announced a shocking decision to relocate the world's most prestigious off-road endurance racing event away from Saudi Arabia for the upcoming 2027 edition. This emergency policy was implemented after carefully evaluating the security situation and recent developments amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East region.
Since moving to the Gulf region in 2020, Saudi Arabia has served as the permanent home for hundreds of competitors striving to conquer the unforgiving desert dunes. However, shifting geopolitical dynamics forced organizers to take preemptive measures to safeguard the safety of drivers, mechanics, and all crews involved in the annual event, which is traditionally scheduled to take place from January 1 to 15.
Despite the relocation, promoters assured that the grand competition will not be canceled and will proceed in an alternative territory. Morocco is currently emerging as the leading candidate heavily tipped to fill the temporary void, with an official announcement regarding the new venue expected to be released in the coming days by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.).

This exceptional one-off decision was made in close coordination with the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), alongside full backing from the FIA and FIM. A.S.O. is reportedly maintaining direct communication with competitors, teams, and strategic partners to ensure a seamless logistical transition throughout the period.
Meanwhile, off-road enthusiasts will not have to wait indefinitely for the desert caravan's return to the Arabian Peninsula. Organizers have firmly confirmed that Saudi Arabia is scheduled to host the rally once again in 2028, marking a monumental milestone celebrating the 50th anniversary of the legendary endurance classic.
