Christian Horner has opened up about his Formula 1 future and his staggering severance package from Red Bull in a revealing new interview. Speaking on 60 Minutes Australia, the former team principal discussed how his multi-million-dollar departure has completely rewritten his career trajectory and granted him absolute leverage.
When Red Bull GmbH terminated his employment, Horner still had over four years remaining on his contract. According to Red Bull Technology Limited's financial reports, he received a massive payout of £67 million (approximately $88.5 million), with paddock sources estimating the total package closer to $100 million once additional contractual fees were fully settled.
That level of generational wealth has fundamentally shifted how Horner approaches his next career move. Rather than scrambling to secure a traditional role on the pitwall, the 52-year-old is navigating his post-F1 reality as a highly liquid free agent with complete control over his schedule and future professional endeavors.

"I think it gives you the luxury of time, that I'm in a privileged position that I don't need to go back to Formula 1," Horner explained during the broadcast. He emphasized that time remains the most precious commodity in life, especially after enduring two intense decades at the helm of the Milton Keynes outfit.
Despite embracing a quieter lifestyle at his English country estate and consulting for the British America's Cup sailing team, Horner was quick to confirm that his competitive drive has not faded away. His passion for high-speed competition remains as potent as ever, spanning across different racing disciplines.
"I'm still a speed junkie," Horner admitted. "So whether it's on four wheels, two wheels, four legs... with horses. Show me the racing line." This unwavering competitive spirit indicates that while his corporate status has changed, his love for motorsport endures.
The paddock consensus suggests that Horner’s days of operating as a traditional, salaried employee are firmly in the past. Reporter Tara Brown noted that rumors of a Formula 1 return persist, but Horner will only consider coming back if he acquires an ownership stake in a team. Armed with a nine-figure net worth, that ownership ultimatum now stands as his ultimate requirement.
