Ferrari star Charles Leclerc has firmly rejected Fernando Alonso's recent claims regarding the standard of driving at the back of the Formula 1 grid, insisting that the overall competitive level across the entire field remains exceptionally high.
The controversy ignited after Fernando Alonso openly criticized the lower third of the grid following a heated on-track battle and opening-lap collision with Alexander Albon at the United States Grand Prix, comments which the Spanish veteran doubled down on during media sessions in Mexico City.
Addressing the remarks during the official FIA drivers' press conference, Charles Leclerc defended his peers by highlighting their shared history growing up together through international karting championships, noting that Alexander Albon was a formidable competitor he deeply looked up to during their formative motorsport years.

The Monegasque driver, currently holding fifth position in the drivers' standings, emphasized that the visible gap between front-running teams and backmarkers comes down exclusively to the machinery and car performance rather than any deficiency in driver talent, maintaining that standards throughout the paddock are remarkably strong.
Echoing these sentiments, Alexander Albon expressed his disappointment regarding the harsh critique from a childhood idol while firmly agreeing that the modern grid boasts immense depth and quality, pointing out the elimination of pay drivers as a key factor in elevating contemporary competition.
