Carlo Pernat Slams Stewards Over Controversial Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi Clash

The controversial collision between Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi during the Tissot Sprint at the Lusail International Circuit continues to ignite fierce debates across the paddock. One of the harshest criticisms came from renowned Italian manager Carlo Pernat, who openly slammed the Race Direction's decision to hand down no sanctions following the incident that sent his compatriot crashing out of the race.

The dramatic clash unfolded when Marquez opted for a wide outside trajectory while Bezzecchi attacked cleanly from the inside line at Turn 1. The contact caused the Aprilia Racing rider to lose the front end, resulting in a heavy tumble and an early retirement from the Sprint. Although the stewards reviewed the maneuver and quickly dismissed it as a standard racing incident, Pernat strongly argued that a penalty was entirely warranted under the current rulebook.

Speaking to GpOne, Pernat made it clear that blame should not be shared equally between the two contenders. "Bezzecchi entered cleanly and did not run wide off the track. He was on the inside and was the only one able to pull off that trajectory. Marquez simply could not accept losing position, tried to pass him from the outside, touched him, and knocked him down. Of course, he did not do it on purpose," Pernat stated.

The veteran manager further emphasized that consistency in penalizing aggressive moves is crucial for maintaining order in the premier class. "Given the rules in place today, however, he should have been penalized. After all, he has already dominated the championship. He needed to be penalized, otherwise anything goes. They should have given him a long lap penalty. Bezzecchi was on the inside, ahead by almost three-quarters of the bike. The other guy refused to accept defeat and took him down," he added.

Despite the fiery comments from the paddock, Bezzecchi himself chose to defuse the situation in his media debriefs, preferring to conserve his energy for the main Grand Prix. Nevertheless, the ongoing discussions regarding overtaking limits and rider safety remain a hot topic as the championship reaches its decisive final stages.
