Cadillac Addresses F1 2027 Driver Market Amid Line-up Uncertainty
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Sergio Perez has impressed in his F1 comeback season with Cadillac

Cadillac Team Principal Marcin Budkowski has stopped short of ruling out a potential change to its Formula 1 driver line-up for the 2027 season. The American squad has tackled its nascent steps in F1 and its maiden campaign by relying on the wealth of experience brought by Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas behind the wheel.

While Perez has consistently extracted strong performances out of the team's challenger despite its predictable position towards the wrong end of the grid, Valtteri Bottas has faced early-season scrutiny regarding his pace and future within the Silverstone-based outfit.

In a recent interview, Perez hinted at keeping an eye on a future retirement, even though he returned highly motivated to prove his speed following his unceremonious departure from Red Bull. The Mexican driver emphasized that while his passion for motorsport remains strong, his family ultimately comes first.

"I really enjoy Formula 1 and am happy to be back, and I'm now in an environment where I really enjoy the races," Perez stated. "Ultimately, it's my passion, but I'm also aware of my family and my children. It's very tempting to stay in this sport that we enjoy so much, isn't it? But for me, my children undoubtedly come first; I want to spend more time with them."

Ahead of the United States Grand Prix weekend in Austin, Marcin Budkowski quickly shut down any fears that the veteran driver might call it a career sooner than anticipated. He stressed that Perez's demeanor on and off the track reflects anything but a driver nearing the end of his illustrious career.

"Look, for a driver like Checo, who, as you said, has a huge amount of experience and a number of races, I can tell you he doesn't behave or drive like a driver who is anywhere close to retirement," the Polish boss told media, including Motorsport Week. "He's pushing very hard behind the wheel. He's pushing us very hard also behind the scenes, in the debrief rooms and outside."

Highlighting the contrasting personalities of his driver pairing, Budkowski praised their respective styles in pushing the team forward. Furthermore, sources indicated that virtually all out-of-contract F1 drivers have already reached out to Cadillac regarding potential seats for upcoming seasons.
