Nicolo Bulega has admitted that his chances of securing a Ducati MotoGP seat for 2027 will depend heavily on the decisions made by other riders in an increasingly competitive market.
The current WorldSBK title leader has strengthened his position through consistent performances, including previous MotoGP appearances as a substitute for Marc Marquez, where he scored points in each outing. His involvement in Ducati’s official development programme for the 2027 850cc machine further underlines his potential pathway to the premier class.
However, Ducati’s rider line-up appears close to capacity across its factory and satellite teams. Prospects such as Pedro Acosta are expected to occupy factory positions, while satellite teams are evaluating combinations of emerging talent and established riders. This creates a scenario where Bulega’s opportunity is closely tied to movements elsewhere in the rider market.

"We are in discussions with Ducati, and there are several options," Bulega said.
"The best solution would be to reach MotoGP, but under the right conditions, with a competitive bike and a package that allows me to fight."
A key variable is the future of Fabio di Giannantonio, whose strong form has attracted interest from rival manufacturers. A potential move away from Ducati could open a pathway for Bulega, particularly within satellite structures such as VR46.
"A lot will depend on the choices of other riders, such as Fabio di Giannantonio," he added.
Despite his ambition to return to MotoGP, Bulega emphasised that he will not accept a seat without competitive potential. His previous experience in grand prix racing did not yield strong results, making performance conditions a critical factor in any future decision.
Alternative options outside Ducati remain under consideration, although opportunities appear limited. Interest from projects such as Aprilia has been discussed, but team preferences for experienced riders could restrict pathways for newcomers.
Meanwhile, Bulega’s ongoing performance in WorldSBK continues to enhance his profile. His current championship-leading form and extended winning streak reinforce his credentials as a leading candidate for promotion to MotoGP.
With the 2027 regulation overhaul set to introduce 850cc engines and Pirelli tyres, rider selection strategies are becoming increasingly critical. For Ducati, balancing experience with adaptability will be key, while for Bulega, his progression to MotoGP will largely be determined by the evolving dynamics of the rider market in the coming months.
