Gabriel Bortoleto didn't need long to figure out the real Fernando Alonso. The young Audi driver says his manager is exactly the same person in private as he is in front of the cameras. In an appearance on The Fast And The Curious podcast, Bortoleto opened up about Alonso's straightforward and sarcastic personality.
"He's very straightforward when he's in front of the cameras. He's like what he shows. One of his qualities is that he doesn't fake it. So, I think people know how he is," Bortoleto explained. He added that he loves Alonso's sarcasm. "I love that he's very sarcastic many times, with many stuff, but people already know that. Most of the time he's being sarcastic, and it's so funny. I love it. I laugh so much about it."
Bortoleto, now racing for Audi after the Swiss team's official takeover, is part of A14 Management, Alonso's agency. He joins a roster that includes Maximilian Guenther, Clement Novalak, Nikola Tsolov, Pepe Marti, Sebastian Montoya, Chloe Chambers, Cenyu Han, Andres Cardenas, and Carl Bennett. This managerial relationship is more than just a contract; it's a mentorship that benefits both parties.
Back in 2025, Alonso heaped praise on Bortoleto after the Brazilian finished sixth at the Hungarian Grand Prix, just behind Alonso in fifth. "He commits few errors, always putting pressure. He's the best rookie of this generation," Alonso said at the time. "If he was English, or something, and finished sixth in a Sauber, he'd be in all the news tomorrow. What he does is exceptional."
Bortoleto ended his rookie season 19th in the drivers' championship. Now, in his second year, he sits 14th with 10 points, ahead of his experienced teammate Nico Hulkenberg, who is 15th with seven points. This progress highlights the rapid development of the 21-year-old, especially under the pressure of being a young driver at a works team.
Alonso's no-nonsense personality has clearly had a positive impact on Bortoleto. In a paddock often filled with intrigue and image management, Alonso's honesty is refreshing. Bortoleto feels comfortable because he doesn't have to second-guess his manager's intentions. "I like his sarcasm, it's quite funny," he said.
