Erebus boss Barry Ryan has finally broken his silence regarding the fuel miscalculation that forced Jarrod Hughes into an extra pit stop during the closing stages of Sunday's race. The unexpected stop triggered wild speculations and outside allegations suggesting a coordinated directive from manufacturers to manipulate race results.
However, Supercars officials subsequently confirmed that both cars genuinely required the extra fuel to reach the chequered flag. Ryan explicitly told Speedcafe that the costly pit error was simply a human mistake involving the sight tube on the fuel tower during the second stop.
"It was an error by the data guy. We just didn’t dump enough fuel in," Ryan stated, explaining that the young staff member mistakenly targeted 70 litres instead of the required 80 litres on the tower's scale for the Chevrolet Camaro.

Ryan expressed deep frustration over the negative media reaction and accusations of cheating directed at a young team member who made an honest mistake. He drew parallels with rival squad PremiAir Racing, noting that boss Roland Dane confirmed they experienced the exact same human error from a young engineer.
Despite the strategic setback, Ryan heaped praise on Hughes for delivering one of the most impressive rookie performances seen in a single-driver Supercars event, noting that strong expectations now await the young driver moving forward.
