The Noale factory Aprilia is preparing to make a pivotal decision regarding internal team directives for the remainder of the 2026 MotoGP season. The dominant display of four RS-GP machines in Indonesia firmly confirmed the Italian manufacturer's competitiveness and its genuine capability to challenge Ducati across diverse racing circuits.
Technical Director Fabiano Sterlacchini shared his analysis with media representatives, as reported by collaborator Manuel Pecino via Motosan.es, following a historic weekend at Mandalika. Sterlacchini addressed the performance of Jorge Martin, particularly his race start and risk management strategy. 'In the first corner after the start, Jorge had a disadvantage to recover. I am not inside his head, but I believe he tried to get the maximum possible result while taking the minimum risks,' Sterlacchini noted.
The strong presence of four Aprilia bikes proves the brand's potential to fight toe-to-toe at the front of the grid. 'It is a great demonstration of strength and we knew this circuit suited our characteristics. It is something very nice. We do not say we have the best bike, but that we are at the same level and can fight toe-to-toe,' he emphasized regarding their technical growth.
Despite the strong results, the team recognizes the need to extract maximum performance from their technical package consistently. Management under Massimo Rivola aims to harness the full potential of the bike while preventing internal conflicts from compromising their broader championship objectives as the season progresses.
Addressing the topic of on-track freedom, Aprilia is actively reviewing whether to implement stricter guidelines following minor incidents earlier in the weekend. 'As Massimo has stated, right now our riders have complete freedom, although it is clear that we are starting to talk among ourselves about the possibility of establishing some guidelines to avoid problems,' Sterlacchini concluded.
