Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi delivered a stunning double podium for Aprilia at the 2026 Austrian MotoGP, stealing crucial points from Marc Marquez in the championship standings. At the Red Bull Ring, a circuit statistically favouring Ducati, both Aprilia riders finished second and third, shaking up the title fight.
For Martin, the result was particularly valuable. The Spaniard extended his lead to +12 points over Marquez. Meanwhile, Bezzecchi, who had struggled in Austria, is now just 30 points behind Marquez and limited the damage. “We were fast in Austria, that's impressive,” said Massimo Rivola, Aprilia Racing CEO, to Sky Sport MotoGP.
What made the day even more special was the return of Ai Ogura. After missing two rounds due to injury, the Japanese rider finished fourth, right ahead of the reigning champion. “It was great to see Ai immediately competitive,” added Rivola. Aprilia left with a big boost ahead of the Asian swing.
Rivola also credited Pedro Acosta and KTM for their maiden victory. “They deserve it, especially after what happened yesterday. We are also very happy with our performance. Jorge and Marco made us a bit nervous, but seeing Aprilia fast in Austria is huge,” he concluded.
Championship Impact
With these points, Martin strengthens his lead to 12 points over Marquez. Bezzecchi, who was once far behind, is back in the title hunt, just 30 points adrift. Meanwhile, Ogura's fourth-place finish shows Aprilia's squad depth is solid.
Aprilia's success in Austria is down to the team's hard work on the RS-GP. The bike can now compete on various circuit types, including top-speed tracks like the Red Bull Ring. “We've made big steps in electronics and aerodynamics,” an Aprilia engineer revealed.
With the Asian rounds approaching, this momentum could be a turning point. Aprilia must maintain consistency to end Ducati's dominance. Meanwhile, Marquez and Ducati are sure to respond strongly. The 2026 MotoGP title fight is heating up.
