Formula 1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli left it late to top the only practice session of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend at Zandvoort. The Mercedes driver posted a 1m12.949s lap in the closing minutes, edging Lando Norris by 0.121s.
George Russell made it a Mercedes 1-3, finishing just 0.004s behind Norris. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc took fourth and fifth, with the top five covered by less than three tenths of a second.
The session started on a damp track, prompting Nico Hulkenberg to be first out on intermediates. However, conditions dried quickly, and slicks became the choice, leading to rapidly improving lap times.

Max Verstappen had a difficult afternoon, finishing 11th after a gravel excursion. Liam Lawson, back in the Red Bull, was 14th, while Yuki Tsunoda, now at Racing Bulls, could only manage 17th.
Carlos Sainz twice ran through the gravel at Turn 11, and his Williams suffered floor damage that compromised his running. Fernando Alonso also had a moment but saved his car.
With Mercedes looking strong, the battle for pole promises to be tight. Can Antonelli carry this form into qualifying? We'll find out later today.
