Franco Colapinto has officially extended his contract with Alpine for the 2027 Formula 1 season. The Argentine driver will continue alongside Pierre Gasly for a third consecutive year.
The decision comes after Colapinto's impressive performances throughout 2026. After a rollercoaster debut season, he showed greater consistency, scoring 19 points to complement Gasly's 44.
The highlight came in Montreal, where Colapinto finished sixth—his best F1 result yet. That achievement lifted him to 12th in the drivers' standings after 12 rounds.
"I am very pleased to remain with this team in 2027. I feel very happy and very settled here, and it's been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last," Colapinto said in an official statement.
Team boss Flavio Briatore's confidence was key. Briatore stressed the importance of stability in the driver lineup. "Franco has truly grown and matured into a great driver this year. His results in Miami and Montreal confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula 1 and he belongs at this team," he said.
This new contract also signals Alpine's seriousness about building long-term foundations. With the Gasly-Colapinto duo solidifying, the team's focus now shifts entirely to car development in pursuit of victories.
Colapinto himself is ready for the challenges ahead. "Our long-term goals are obvious—to compete and win. I am grateful to the team, Flavio, and Steve for the trust placed in me," he concluded.
