Top management at Alpine has made it clear that they remain unconcerned regarding the initial sales volume figures for their electric performance SUV, the Alpine A390. Rather than chasing immediate commercial milestones in the competitive market, the primary objective for the French brand is to establish a sustainable growth trajectory over the long term. Launched late last year to rival established models like the electric Porsche Macan, this high-performance vehicle alongside the A290 hatchback forms a cornerstone in the brand's strategic evolution into an all-electric performance powerhouse.
At present, the A390 is recording roughly 250 unit sales per month, a figure acknowledged by Alpine CEO Philippe Krief as falling short of initial projections. However, Renault Group executive Francois Provost explained that the original sales forecasts may have been overly ambitious, highlighting the need for a more prudent approach when evaluating market potential. He noted that while the premium sports model enjoys a distinct identity and attracts considerable interest, it faces hurdles during the final purchasing stage due to aggressive financial incentives, discounts, and residual value policies offered by German competitors.
This intense competition within the premium sector allows rival manufacturers to present more attractive monthly leasing rates to prospective buyers. Nonetheless, leadership maintains a cautious and deliberate strategy, citing decisions such as delaying the brand's entry into the United States market as a testament to their measured approach. Provost reiterated that falling short of short-term volume forecasts would not constitute a critical issue as long as the brand preserves its core identity, product value, and overall customer satisfaction levels.

Echoing this confident outlook, Krief pointed to the precedent set by the A290, which also experienced a sluggish commercial rollout before ultimately achieving positive results. Furthermore, data cited by the leadership indicates that the new model excels at attracting completely fresh demographics, with roughly eighty percent of buyers having no prior history with either Alpine or the broader Renault Group. This influx of entirely new consumers serves as a vital indicator for long-term brand expansion that goes well beyond immediate delivery numbers.
Ultimately, the executive team believes that cementing the brand's position will require patience, consistent investment, and strict adherence to a premium market positioning. By prioritizing brand equity and customer acquisition over rapid volume expansion, the manufacturer aims to secure a robust and enduring presence in the high-performance electric vehicle sector.
